Damn, I’d forgotten what a great band the Arcade Fire are – until I saw a repeat broadcast of their performance on Austin City Limits and was totally blown away. I mean, both records are solid, but watching them live is insanely intense. Everyone onstage is in the moment, totally wrapped up as if speaking in tongues, and the whole spectacle takes on the feel of some long lost mid-western tent revival, with musicians testifying all over the stage. And like a black and white photograph, it comes across as modern but oddly timeless at the same time. But don’t take my word for it – you can watch the whole thing here.
I don’t know why I’ve missed them every time they’ve come through town, but I think I need to catch them at the Mann this August in Philly. Looking forward to the new disc as well.
