I was recently commissioned by a good friend to do a painting of Bob Dylan as a surprise for his wife’s birthday. He was looking for that iconic, 1965 look so for reference I used a selection of black and white photos taken by legendary photographer Richard Avedon. This is how it turned out.
The piece is 36″ x 36″. Oil on canvas. September 2012.
On a side note, I’m really digging the new Dylan record. Similar in style to his recent work. A great record for driving around late at night alone. And I can almost hear a little Tom Waits creeping in there as well.
