Post #1163 – Happy New Year

Joe Castro art studio

Happy New Year (belated) everyone.  Sorry for being incommunicado the past few months – I hope 2015’s been treating you well.

As usual, lots of things cooking here art-wise  – besides traveling for shows and working on a number of album covers, I was recently asked to contribute a new collage for an upcoming book, Z2A, which will feature 26 different artists interpreting the alphabet.  The book should be available sometime this spring via Benzene Editions.  Stay tuned for more info.

I also finished two brand new collages (along with some text about the pieces) for the latest issue of FABA Collage Mag, which should be dropping toward the end of January. More on that to come as well.

On a music note, I’ve been working on new songs and am hoping to release some new material via The Lift Up sometime later this year, as well as play some more shows. Keep your ears crossed.

That’s all for now friends – thank you, as always, for your support. And follow along on instagram, twitter or facebook for the latest news.

Post #1162 – Shows in Denver and Leeds

Joe Castro art shows Denver Leeds

I’m writing from the cafe car of the number 43 train, leisurely sipping black coffee and heading west from Philadelphia to (eventually) Denver, Colorado.  I have 2 group art shows coming up this week – both I’m equally excited about – that I wanted to share with you:

the_nerium_spring_400pxThe first, entitled Subterraneans, is at Leeds Collage of Art (UK) and features work by artists who’ve been influenced by Jack Kerouac and the Beat generation. My contribution, The Nerium Spring (pictured left), was created last year specifically for this show, which also includes the work of  Andy Warhol, Aesthetic Apparatus, John Baldessari, Jason Munn, Kim Gordon, Marcel Duchamp,  Peter Liversidge, Ray Johnson, Richard Prince, Robert Crumb, Roy Lichtenstein, Sam Taylor-Wood and Yoko Ono among others.  To say the very least, I’m honored to be included. It opens Friday November 21 and runs until December 5 so get there if you can. Otherwise, click here to preview the exhibit & check out the catalog.

The second is the National Collage Society’s 30th Annual Juried Exhibition: Greater than the Sum, at the Center for Visual Art, Metropolitan State University of Denver in Colorado.  I’m stoked to have 2 pieces among the 91 being shown (sodapoprocks and The Jackal) and will be at the opening reception this Friday (Nov 21) so please stop by and say hello if you’re in town. (5-8pm)  The exhibit runs November 21, 2014 until January 24, 2015.

until next time….
