I am very excited to finally share with you the “Cut and Paste” collage art board series I designed for Element skateboards.
As an art form, I first started working with collage around 2004, mainly as an excuse to lurk around dust covered old book shops and hunt for vintage magazines. I started skateboarding in Delaware in 1987, and spent countless teenage hours flipping through the latest issues of Thrasher and Transworld Magazines. Eventually, I completely covered all four walls of my bedroom with images from those pages. In some respects, this was my first attempt at collage so this series brings everything back full circle.
I am really happy with how these turned out. It has been a not-so-secret dream of mine to create a board graphic for a major brand. This was a large check off on the bucket list. The foil printing was a pleasant surprise. Thank you Andy Jenkins and Element skateboards for making this happen.
All three collages were created using images found in vintage magazines and other ephemera that are then dry adhered to paper with a gel medium. The original artwork was created in June 2019.
